The Puna Men’s Chorus celebrates its fifth year as a chorus in a major show called “Flashback!” Members picked out the most meaningful and popular songs they’ve performed to date and will reprise them for the public.

The Puna Men’s Chorus celebrates its fifth year as a chorus in a major show called “Flashback!” Members picked out the most meaningful and popular songs they’ve performed to date and will reprise them for the public.

As PMC Choral Conductor Kenneth Reinhardt explains, “The chorus members themselves deserve the credit for this idea. We wanted to celebrate our fifth year of making music together, with and for the Puna community.

“The PMC is known for its diverse nature. All are welcome here. The weekly rehearsals are always a warm experience for the singers, leaving all with a sense of well-being and connectedness,” Reinhardt said.

He said the group’s mission is “to inspire, educate and transform with the power of our voices. That’s why the chorus is here, and that’s why I’m here too.

“It was a moment of immense personal pride for all of the members when they took the stage at this year’s Merrie Monarch Festival to perform the national and Hawaiian anthems. They performed at the Paradise Roller Girls’ bouts as well as for the beautiful sunset candlelight festival for Hospice of Hilo,” he said. “For the upcoming production you can expect some beautiful singing, some good laughs, and some of the most beautiful choral music you’ll ever hear.

“And what about the band? The Flashback! Band is made up of Devon Lerma on keyboard, Glen Burris on ukulele, Loren Antolik on guitar and Frank Musacchio on bass.”

Concerts will be held at the following venues in August: EMAX in Kalani on Friday, Aug. 10; Hawaiian Paradise Park’s community center on Sunday, Aug. 12; Hilo Palace Theater on Friday, Aug. 17; Keauhou Beach Hotel in Kona on Sunday, Aug. 19. All showtimes are 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15, general admission, and $12 for senior citizens 60 and older and students. All children under 5 can enter for free. You can get your tickets in advance either from chorus members or the concert venues themselves. Tickets will be available at the door and at Basically Books, Jungle Love, Hilo Bay Books, Kona Bay Books, Kalani Honua, The Mask-Querade Bay and My Bar.

“I can guarantee that you will be hearing, and seeing, things never before heard nor seen on any stage before,” said Reinhardt. “Cowboys and boas, hippies and Broadway, ABBA and Hawaiian mele — this is the essence of four years of Puna Men’s Chorus, distilled into one show.”
